Just outside the village, in the Papagnano district, are Le Antiche Fonti, a place steeped in history and tradition for the people of Petritolese. Observing them closely, one can read the traces of different building eras: from the Roman age to the late Middle Ages, to Renaissance interventions.

In the early twentieth century, two public wash houses were added, which soon became not only a point of daily utility, but also a meeting place for the village laundresses, amid chatter, songs and tales of life.

With the passage of time, vegetation had hidden this treasure, but today, thanks to the efforts of the young people of the Antiche Fonti Association, the site has been recovered and enhanced, once again becoming an evocative corner of Petritoli’s collective memory.
